2012 is the Year of the Dragon 4710 and also marks the 100th anniversary of Chinatown in Chicago. The neighborhood is located on the South side, with the core of it on Cermak and Wentworth Avenues. Chicago is the second oldest settlement of Chinese in America after the Chinese fled persecution in California.¹
Chinatown in Chicago is a wonderful place to wander around and explore. The colors are vibrant and the wonderful aroma of Asian food floats through the air. When I am in the depths of it I feel like a tourist from another land.
I tried wandering to parts of the area to photograph bits that are both popular and not so well-known. The images reflect the vivid colors, spirit and decor. I hope you enjoy them.
Beautiful colors, beautiful photos. I miss wandering around Chinatown in Chicago!
Hmmmmmmm…thought for a second I was on the west coast not the east. Love the glass work in the church tower. Do you ever go to Chinatown to eat? Bet you could get some really good egg rolls. Yum.
Great use of the colors.
